Congress of Kazakhstan’s Azerbaijanis to Take Place in Astana this Spring

Kazakhstan, Astana / Тrend News corr K. Konirova/ The congress of the Azerbaijanis residing in Kazakhstan will take place this sprig, the Chair of Khazar, the Azerbaijani diaspora in Astana Vidadi Agayev told Trend.

"We cannot tell the exact date of the meeting, as the preparations are underway. We plan to hold it in Astana in April after the Novruz Holiday," Agayev said.

The congress was initiated by the Astana-based diaspora of Azerbaijanis. 

"We placed an announcement in the Turan-Express newspaper and sent letters to all diaspora and cultural centres of Azerbaijanis in Kazakhstan and invited them to hold the forum," he said.

According to Agayev, the work is being carried out. The meetings to elect the delegates to the congress are to be held. Only then we will fix the date of the congress.

The congress of Kazakhstan Azerbaijanis aims at establishing unified association of the republic, which is to coordinate the activities of all Azerbaijani cultural centres in Kazakhstan, Vidadi Salahov, the first Vice-President of Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan Association and the editor-in-chief of the Turan-Express newspaper said to Trend.

"There is a need for a unified position on integration into the Turkic world and on joining the efforts of the Turkic speaking countries," Salahov said.

He said Turkic Cultural Centre will also take part in the congress of Kazakhstan Azerbaijanis.

At present, there are over 300,000 Azerbaijanis living in Kazakhstan, with majority of them being the citizens of Kazakhstan, and others - of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia and Russia.
