Carlos Keyrosh becomes head coach of Iranian national football team

Renowned Portuguese specialist Carlos Keyrosh has become the head coach of the Iranian national football team.

He signed a contract for 3.5 years with the Iranian Football Federation this morning. Keyrosh officially became head coach, the Iranian news agency Fars reported.

He arrived in Tehran on April 4 and met with Iranian Physical Education Organization head Ali Saeedlou. Keyrosh will lead the Iranian national team through the next world championships in Brazil in 2014. Tonight, Keyrosh will hold a press conference to announce his program for the Iranian national team.

He will officially begin working on April 5. Keyrosh's assistants are also Portuguese specialists. No details were announced. Keyrosh paid a visit to Tehran in February and held talks with the Iranian Football Federation officials.

The Sport 360 website reported that Keyrosh will sign a 3.5-year contract worth $6 million.

Earlier, Keyrosh led the Sporting (Portugal) and Real Madrid (Spain) teams, and the UAE and South African national teams. Keyrosh was dismissed for poor performance in the World Cup in South Africa.

Earlier, it was reported that Diego Maradona would become the head coach of the Iranian national team.
