Azerbaijani political analyst and Trend Expert Council member Fikret Sadikhov said expert advice is common practice in the U.S. and in Europe, where separate foundations, associations, and councils at various major international news agencies operate. Experts are available in various fields.
"Experts should carry out a serious and important role that binds civil society with authorities", he told Trend. "This may be event analysis, problem disclosure, some aspects of political life, world issues, and power structures; the authorities may indeed need this."
Sadikhov said that officials and institutions would do well to be "vitally interested" in this.
"Expert councils provide advice; they have no right to dictate anything to anyone, but give a vision of problems, analysis and prediction - that is their task", Sadikhov said.
"Experience shows that many members of expert councils are actively represented in media with publications and interviews. They voice their opinions, and of course this should be reflected by decisions taken by political circles," he added.
It would be better if the expert councils gather and share opinions from time to time, not just at the level of distance communication, but through "live" contacts, he stressed.
"It will be directed toward even greater development and improvement of such councils and improve their work," Sadikhov said.
