Ecuador will wait until the end of the Olympics on August 12 before announcing its decision on Wikileaks founder Julian Assange's asylum request, Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino said July 25.
The London Games start Friday. Assange, who is wanted for questioning in Sweden over sex-crime allegations, has been holed up since last month inside the Ecuadorian embassy in the British capital.
Patino said that Ecuador will be "prudent" so as not to affect the games. He said he was hopeful that the decision would not affect Ecuador's ties with Britain.
