Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / The idea on formation of religious opposition in Azerbaijan, which is spread among the society by small groups, is absurd, the Chairman of the State Committee on Azerbaijan Religious Organizations, Hidayat Orujev, stated at a press conference on 29 June.
According to Orujev, there is a healthy religious climate in Azerbaijan and the increase in number of pious people is caused by freedom of religion in the country.
Secular principles in Azerbaijan are a historical achievement of Azerbaijan. Some groups hope to politicize the religion, to establish a religious power, but that is absurd and ridiculous," Orujev added.
The chairman said that there was no necessity in Azerbaijan, as well as in other countries, in the Law on Freedom of Religion, as religious matters in Azerbaijan are arranged by the Constitution and other laws.
