Uzbekistan’s 2020 import of construction materials down

Uzbekistan decreased imports of 45 types of building materials by 15 percent due to the development of their own production, Trend reports referring to Uzbekistan's Association of Building Materials Industry Enterprises (Uzpromstroymaterialy).

According to the government decree of March 10, 2020, on the program for the localization of production of goods in the domestic and foreign markets for 2020-2021, last year the production forecast for 13 types of localized building materials amounted to 718 billion soums ($68 million).

It is reported that goods worth 787.8 billion soums ($75 million) were produced in 2020 within the framework of this program. The list of goods includes ceramic tiles - 12 million square meters, building, and decorative glass - 16.7 million square meters, wallpaper - 1.7 million square meters, linoleum - 3.5 million square meters, additives for building mixtures and concretes – 3,200 tons. It is noted that the forecast was overfulfilled by 9.7 percent (1.9 times more than in 2019).

In addition, the level of localization of additives for concrete and building mixtures produced by Turkish Arment Construction Chemicals Business FE LLC, in particular, increased from 36 percent to 42 percent.

It was also noted that it is planned to produce construction materials for 905.1 billion soums ($86 million) in 2021 within the framework of the localization program for 17 projects.

In particular, it is planned to produce ceramic tiles for 318.5 billion soums ($30 million), construction and decorative glass - for 230 billion soums ($22 million), wallpaper - for 114 billion soums ($10.9 million), linoleum - for 65 billion soums ($6.2 million), additives for concrete and building mixtures - for 31 billion soums ($3 million).

Furthermore, the total imports for 45 types of basic building materials amounted to $467.6 million, decreasing by 15 percent or $77.6 million compared to 2019.
