Four travel insurers will insure Azerbaijani tourists abroad

The Azerbaijani Travel Agencies Association plans to hold a tender among local insurance companies in order to more effectively provide health insurance of Azerbaijani tourists abroad in April, Nahid Bagirov, the association's head, said today.

"The tender will select only four insurance companies that offer professional packages of travel insurance," he added.

According to him, the association is reviewing the work of companies abroad in order to select the best four companies.

"Preference will be given to four companies that do have professional services to tourists outside the country, with a view to improve the quality of travel insurance and increase the confidence of tourists. The winners will offer travel vouchers to all members of the association," he said.

About 28 insurance and one re-insurance company operate in Azerbaijan. The company's activities premiums in 2009 totaled 163.31 million manats, with payments of 53.07 million manats. Premiums for health insurance were 21.54 million manats, with payments of 15.13 million manats.

The association was established with the assistance of the Azerbaijani Tourism and Culture Ministry in 2009. Board members include heads of Improtex Travel, Caspian Travel, Pasha Travel, Silkway Travel and Euroturizm.

The association protects the interests of travel agencies, develops bills, recommendations and regulations, assists in establishing national travel companies, and develops plans to conduct trainings and seminars for market participants, creates conditions for advertising of Azerbaijani tourism at annual international exhibitions; develops domestic tourism and presents tourism products at the world market.

The association also tries to develop and introduce congressional tourism, help train specialists in the management and services spheres etc.

The official exchange rate March 15 is 0.8033 manats for $1.
