Azerbaijan has significantly reduced the import of Kazakh grain this year, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan Serik Primbetov told journalists on Thursday.

"Azerbaijan bought about 1.3 million tons of grain from Kazakhstan last year, but only about half a million tons this year" Primbetov said.

The ambassador explained this was due to the development of agriculture in Azerbaijan and increase of its own grain production.

Kazakhstan is among the world's largest grain exporters. In 2011 the republic had a record harvest of nearly 27 million tons of grain in net weight. Export potential was estimated at 15 million tons.
