Profit of Turkish banking sector increases by over a third

The assets of Turkey's banking sector increased by 12.7 per cent in Jan. 2013 compared to the same period of 2012, reaching 1.367 trillion liras, a report of Turkish Banking Regulation and Supervisory Agency (BDDK) said today.

The volume of loans granted by Turkish banks in January increased by 18 per cent compared to the same period of 2012, reaching 799.1 billion liras.

According to the report, the Turkish banking sector's income increased by 37 per cent per year to reach 2.5 billion liras. The equity capital of the Turkish domestic banks in January increased by 24.6 per cent to 24.2 billion liras.

The number of branches of domestic banks throughout Turkey in January 2013 increased by 28. Today, there are 46 banks in Turkey.

The official exchange rate is 1.7949 TRY/USD on March 11.
