Administration of Uzbekistan's Fergana region and managers of the Kuva Agro Invest company held online negotiations with the leadership of Azerbaijan's Tovuz-Baltika LLC, Trend reports citing Dunyo News Agency.

The parties discussed implementation of investment projects in the Fergana region in agriculture, including the processing of fruit and vegetable products and training of personnel in the agricultural sector.

"During the meeting, Director General of the Azerbaijani company Naig Mammadgasanov expressed interest in implementation of the project on cultivation of pomegranates in Kuva district, where there are best natural conditions for cultivation of pomegranates. He emphasized that in addition to financial profits, such a project will help increase the region's export potential and create new jobs," the report says.

Pomegranate is very popular not only as a product for consumption, but also as a raw material for pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

"In India and Bangladesh, the leaves of this plant are used in medicine production. The Azerbaijani side once again emphasized its interest in projects on growing one of the world's best and most popular varieties of Shahnar pomegranate, setting up a canning plant for the production of juices and preservatives, as well as training personnel in the field of pomegranate farming," the report says.

The Uzbek side expressed its full support for the initiatives of the Azerbaijani investor and reiterated its readiness for close cooperation.
