By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Japan’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2019 in Georgia stood at $39.53 million, which is 8 times more, compared to 2018 ($4.84 million), Embassy of Japan in Georgia told Trend.

"Japan is providing various types of support to Georgia for its prosperity, to increase its East-West connectivity and access to European markets" the embassy said.

For example, Japan has funded arrangement of the agricultural laboratories in Zugdidi city (Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region of Georgia) and Akhaltsikhe city (Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia), which will enable local small and medium producers to obtain food safety certificates and as a result – access European markets in the future (based on EU-Georgia Association Agreement and subsequent Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement), the embassy noted.

"At the same time, Japan is providing support to Georgia to increase its human security for people. One of the last examples includes Japan’s donation of 300 million Japanese Yen for Georgia to improve its medical infrastructure and response to COVID-19 pandemic," the embassy said.
