Iran eyes to increase dry tea production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 10. Iran’s dry tea production is expected to increase by about 3 percent, during the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), compared to last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), the Chairman of the Iran Tea Organization, Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports citing the organization.

The chairman said that Iran is expected to produce more than 31,000 tons of dry tea this year.

"Meanwhile, in the last Iranian year, about 30,000 tons of dry tea were produced in the county," he added.

Jahansaz also noted that over last Iranian year, a total of 135,000 tons of tea leaves were purchased from tea growers in Iran. The figure will increase to 145,000 tons this year.

According to him, the Tea Fund in Iran provided a total of 470 billion rials (about $11.2 million) worth of loans to farmers last Iranian year. So, 40 million rials (about $952) was issued for each hectare. The loans were issued for 4 years at 4 percent.

In Iran, some products such as rice, sugar beet, wheat and tea are purchased from farmers by the Government Trade Corporation (GTC) of Iran under a guarantee and paid for in installments.

The price of first-grade tea leaves is 92,000 rials (about $2.19), and the second-grade tea leaves are 71,000 rials (about $1.69) in this season.
