Expansion of Baku-International Airport to cost $150m

The Head of the Road Construction Department of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry, Javid Gurbanov told Trend that the expenses for the expansion of an automobile road from the Azizbayov Station up to the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, in accordance with the Presidential Decree, on relieving the transport infrastructure of Baku, is estimated at $150m.

Gurbanov said that a major segment of the fund will be spent on the construction of new road junctions, bridges and the replacement of communications, as well as the purchase of land. Approximately $30-35m is required for the construction of the roads. Projecting and construction of this road is carried out by Slovak company Doprastav.

It is planned to construct 5 junctions within this road. The road will be expanded to carry 8-12 lanes. Furthermore, it is planned to expand the Heydar Aliyev Avenue and establish a unified high-speed highway enabling the speed limit to be increased to 120-150km per hour.

Every day approximately 220,000 automobiles travel on the roundabout by the Azizbayov subway station, he added.
