Turkmenistan ends maintenance work on Central Asia-Centre gas pipeline

Turkmenistan has completed maintenance works on the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline that allows launching negotiations with the Russia customer Gazprom to resume pumping the Turkmen gas in the northern direction.

According to official Turkmen sources, Deputy Prime Minister, Baimuradov Hojamuhammedov, supervising over fuel and energy complex of the country, made a report on the state of the work on the CAC at the last government meeting.

In the near future, it is expected to hold talks between the state concern Turkmengaz and Russia's Gazprom. Turkmenistan is recognized as one of the key players in the Caspian region to supply natural gas. Until recently, Turkmenistan has exported almost all of its gas to Russia, in the spring of this year, deliveries have been halted due to technical reasons - the accident occurred in the CAC gas pipeline. At this stage, Gazprom proposes conditions for the renegotiation of long-term contract, in particular, the value and volume.

In mid-September, the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Russia, Berdimuhamedov and Medvedev, met in the coastal city of Turkmenbashi, held talks on the state of affairs in cooperation in the energy sector. During the absence of pumping the Turkmen gas to Russia, the government of Turkmenistan has intensified its actions in the European direction.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that Turkmenistan could provide the Turkmen fuel for the Nabucco project, whose purpose is to build a gas pipeline to Europe for pumping the Caspian resources. Moreover, a surplus of commercial gas installations after the end of the year, an additional gas network will be sent to Iran, which borders with Turkmenistan.
