Iran seizes 12.5 million liters of smuggled fuel in Persian Gulf

Some 12.5 million liters of fuel being smuggled through the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz were discovered in a 10,000-ton tanker, Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy General Alireza Tangsiri told reporters, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

According to Tangsiri, 21 smugglers were detained.

He added that the 131-meter-long ship is considered to be a major oil tanker.

"The largest group engaged in fuel smuggling in Iran's Hormozgan Province has been terminated," he said.

Tangsiri stated that this was the largest haul of smuggled fuel to ever be seized in the Strait of Hormuz.
