UAE’s Masdar wins tenders for solar power plants construction in Uzbek regions

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar 220 MW) won tenders for the construction of solar power plants in Samarkand and Jizzakh regions of Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to press service of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

On May 20, 2021, the winners of the tender for construction projects of photovoltaic (solar) plants (PVP) with a capacity of 180-220 MW AC each in the Samarkand and Jizzakh regions were determined.

It is reported that Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar 220 MW) with a tariff offer of 1.57 cents per kWh of electricity was recognized as the winner of the tender for the project for the construction of a power plant in the Kattakurgan district of the Samarkand region.

In addition, Masdar won the tender for the construction of a PVP plant in the Gallaaral district of the Jizzakh region, offering a tariff of 1.578 cents per kWh of electricity.

Earlier it was reported that 84 international companies expressed interest in participating in the tender, of which, after passing a two-stage selection, 15 qualified participants were invited to submit proposals, including commercial, technical and financial ones.

In is noted that by the deadline for submitting proposals on May 16, 2021, seven proposals for a project in the Samarkand region and eight proposals for a project in the Jizzakh region were received.

Uzbek ministry noted that these projects are part of the program for the construction of solar photovoltaic plants in Uzbekistan with a total capacity of 1 GW, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Finance. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) provides technical support to the program.

The program is one of the key components of the large-scale strategy of Uzbekistan on the use of renewable energy sources. By 2030, it is planned to deploy up to 5 GW of cost-effective and environmentally friendly solar generation to meet the growing demand for electricity in the country.
