TEHRAN, Iran, Apr. 4. Iran currently only producing less than 1 percent of its energy from renewable sources, said a member of the Energy Commission of the Iran Chamber of Commerce Hamidreza Salehi, Trend reports citing ILNA.

Referring to the 40-percent increase in the guaranteed purchase rate of renewable electricity, Hamidreza Salehi expressed hope that the private sector players would contribute to renewable energy projects in the current Iranian year (started on March 21).

Among renewable energy sources, Iran has high solar and wind energy potential, he said.

According to the Iranian authorities, there are currently more than 80GW of renewable energy projects that were submitted by private investors for review.

Recently, Iranian Energy Ministry announced a plan to add another 10GW of renewable energy capacity over the next four years as part of an overall strategy to deploy 30GW of power generation capacity.
