BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 26. During the Western Balkans Investment Summit 2024, convened in London by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić expressed satisfaction with the start of Azerbaijani gas shipments to Serbia this year, Trend reports.
"We have made remarkable progress in the energy sector. We began receiving Azerbaijani gas across Bulgarian territory via a new gas pipeline. This is extremely essential to us," Brnabić said.
She also discussed the efforts to connect Serbia with liquefied
natural gas terminals in Greece, which are critical to Serbia's
energy security.
SOCAR and Srbijagas inked a contract in November 2023 to provide
Serbia with Azeri gas on a regular basis, beginning in January
2024.
Supplies for the first quarter of 2024 have been agreed upon to be
approximately 100 million cubic meters of gas.
On November 15, 2023, the State Oil Business of the Republic of
Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and Serbian business Srbijagas inked a contract
in Baku to supply Azerbaijani gas to Serbia.
Based on this agreement, Serbia can receive up to 400 million cubic meters of gas (peak annual volumes) from Azerbaijan via Bulgaria in 2024 through the new Bulgaria-Serbia Interconnector (ISB).
According to the contract with SOCAR, similar possible peak annual volumes for Serbia are scheduled for 2024–2026.
Starting in 2027, the annual volume may reach one bcm.
