Uzbekistan reduced imports of wheat and wheat meslin (mixture of wheat and rye) in 2019 in volume by 2.8 percent compared to the previous year to 2.18 million tons, in value terms - increased by 33.6 percent to $362.6 million, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.
Almost the entire volume of purchased wheat and wheat meslin (mixture of wheat and rye) on this commodity item fell on Kazakhstan, which reduced its exports to Uzbekistan in physical terms by 2.9 percent to 2.177 million tons, in monetary terms - increased by 33.4 percent to $362 million.
At the same time, the weighted average price of wheat and wheat meslin imported from Kazakhstan increased from $121.02 per ton in 2018 to $166.29 per ton in 2019, or 37.4 percent.
Cereals are processed in Uzbekistan by Uzdonmahsulot JSC. Today, its structure includes 44 enterprises on purchase, placement and storage of grain and seeds for state needs, production of flour, cereals, fodder, as well as bread, pasta and confectionery products.
At the same time, only grain producers, included in the structure of Uzdonmahsulot JSC, have the right to conclude contractual agreements with agricultural producers on the purchase of wheat and seeds, as well as store food products in the state reserve.
Earlier it was reported that at the end of 2019, the harvest of grain crops in Uzbekistan increased by 10 percent compared to the previous year and reached almost 7.2 million tons, including cereals - by 11.6 percent to 6.1 million tons.
