Next Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023) will be a better year for Iran from an economic point of view, even if the current situation (US sanctions against Iran, exports, inflation rate in the country) continues, Director General of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), Ali Salehabadi said, Trend reports citing the bank’s website.
According to Salehabadi, situation in various economic sectors of the country has improved since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021).
The director general also added that about $48.6 billion has been provided for Iran's imports from March 21, 2021 to February 6, 2022. This is an increase of 31 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
Salehabadi pointed out that since the beginning of this year, $1.6 billion worth of foreign currency has been traded in the organized foreign exchange market. Meanwhile, in the same period last year, this figure was only $423 million.
“During the reporting period, non-oil exporters sold $25 billion worth of currency to banks under the NIMA exchange rate (the exchange rate created for exporters to sell a portion of their export earnings to banks), which is an increase of 42 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year. Thus, figure was $17.6 billion in the same period last Iranian year,” the official noted.
As for inflation rate in the country, the director general said that inflation rate is also declining. The monthly inflation rate increased by 3.1 percent in the 7th month of the current Iranian year (September 23 through October 22, 2021), by 2.4 percent in the 8th month (October 23 through November 21, 2021), by 1.8 percent in the 9th month (November 22 through December 21, 2021) and by 1.3 percent in the 10th month (December 22, 2021 through January 20, 2022).
