BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 3. Iran has seen a 12.5 percent increase in cargo transportation among its provinces via land roads in the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, an official of Iran Road Maintenance & Transportation Organization, Mehrdad Hamdollahi said, Trend reports.
Hamdollahi said that more than 375 million tons of cargo were moved among the country’s provinces through land roads during the reported period, with 50 million tons in the 8th month alone.
He also said that about 14 million tons of essential products were delivered from Iranian ports to various regions of the country within 8 months.
The official added that the largest share of cargo transportation among Iran’s provinces was for construction materials and mining minerals, which amounted to 127 million tons.
He stated that there are 548,000 drivers and 426,000 trucks involved in cargo transportation in the country.
Iran has a total of 2,793 km of controlled-access highways, 45,170 km of highways, and freeways, and 14,984 km of railway lines. There are 978 locomotives, 29,305 freight wagons, and 2,153 passenger wagons operating on Iran’s railways.
