The national electronic signature certification center of Azerbaijan will start issuing digital SSL (Secure Socket Layer) certificates from early 2019, the center told Trend on Sept. 24.
Presently, the center is audited by the WebTrust Program for Certification Authorities, which will allow the center to start issuing digital certificates. The WebTrust program ensures that certification centers properly check companies and ensure proper protection of certificate keys.
"SSL certificates' issuance will be carried out on a fee basis," the center said.
SSL certificates are the most common type of certificate online at the moment. Most often they are used in online stores, that is, on sites where there is a function of the order and where the client enters his/her personal data. A special HTTPS protocol is used, which encrypts all the data transmitted in order to ensure that this data could not be intercepted at the time of transmission from the browser to the server.
