A total of 268 projects on the introduction of digital economy and e-government in Uzbekistan are planned to be implemented in 2020-2022, Trend reports referring to the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan.
Of them, 104 projects are within the framework of the development of electronic government system, 87 projects in the real sector of the economy, 35 projects for the development of telecommunications infrastructure, 24 projects in the agricultural sector, 18 projects are implemented for the development of IT parks.
At the same time, the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan "On approval of the Strategy" Digital Uzbekistan - 2030 "and measures for its effective implementation" has been approved in order to ensure the accelerated digital development of Uzbekistan, eliminate the digital divide in the regions, improve the efficiency of public administration, and provide convenient public services for business and the population.
Within the course of the digital transformation of regions and industries of Uzbekistan in 2020-2022, it is planned to increase the level of Internet coverage in settlements, and to bring the number of installed broadband access ports to 2.5 million units, lay 20,000 kilometers of fiber-optic communication cables, raise the level of mobile broadband coverage to 95 percent through the development of mobile networks communications.
Currently, the total bandwidth of the international data transmission network in Uzbekistan has been brought to 1,200 Gbps.
The tariff for the provision of Internet services for operators and providers was reduced by 36.1 percent, and today it is 45,000 soums ($4.3) per 1 Mbps. And the number of Internet users has reached 22.1 million, of which the number of mobile Internet users accounts for 19 million.
In addition, two projects have been implemented for the further development of trunk transport telecommunication networks, as a result of which construction and installation works were carried out at 237 objects.
In order to develop mobile communication networks, during 11 months of this year, 4,500 were built and put into operation, 3,000 mobile base stations were modernized. As a result, the level of mobile communication coverage of settlements in Uzbekistan reached 97 percent, and the level of broadband mobile communication coverage reached 87 percent.
Also, one million ports were installed in order to increase the coverage of broadband Internet communication in the country, and thus the number of broadband access ports reached three million units.
Furthermore, a data processing center with a capacity of five petabytes was put into operation.
Also this year, a joint venture for the production of fiber-optic communication cables began its work in Jizzakh free economic zone.
