Kazakhstan’s Almaty airport increases cargo, passenger turnover

The number of passengers served in Kazakhstan’s Almaty International Airport amounted to 6.4 million passengers in 2019, which is 13 percent more than in 2018, Trend reports with reference to the airport.

The majority of the passengers served in the airport were traveling via domestic flights, i.e. 3.4 million passengers, which is 19 percent more than in 2018.

In turn, the number of passengers traveling via international routes was 3 million passengers, which is 7 percent more than in 2018.

The volume of cargo transported via the airport was 69,099 tons, which is 18 percent more than during 2018.

Total number of flights implemented via Almaty International Airports was 64,446 flights in 2018.

Almaty International Airport is among country’s largest international airports.

In Nov. 2019 it was announced that the consortium formed by Turkish TAV Airports (of which Groupe ADP owns 46.1 percent of the capital) and VPE Capital operating in Kazakhstan and Russia, has started discussions with the owner of Kazakhstan’s Almaty International Airport regarding the airport’s potential acquisition.

As TAV Holding’s representative told Trend, it’s hard to name a definitive date, so holding hopes to finalize the agreement within the first quarter of 2020.
