BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 18. An official ceremony was held after the reconstruction of the Khanoba customs post (Azerbaijani-Russian border) this week, which will allow an additional 1,000 trucks a day to pass through.

Azerbaijan and Russia agreed to synchronize customs procedures. It is also expected that within a month the construction of a four-lane road with a length of 24 kilometers between the Samur and Khanoba border points will be completed. At the same time, the road from Baku to the border with the Russian Federation will be finished within two months.

Moreover, Azerbaijan and Georgia are working on improving infrastructure at the border points between the two countries. Similar work will be carried out at all border points of Azerbaijan. The design of reconstruction work on the border between Azerbaijan and Georgia is already underway.

In addition, the Turkish Albayrak installed a new container on loading/unloading crane at the Baku International Sea Trade Port. Other cranes of the port are capable of transshipping cargo up to 80 tons. It is expected that a ship will arrive in the port of Baku in a few days, the unloading of which will be carried out through the use of a new crane.

Meanwhile, the customs structures of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan discussed the diversification of cooperation in the field of customs. The parties noted the importance of creating the Trans-Caspian digital transit portal in order to accelerate the border crossing processes.

The need to simplify customs procedures based on digital solutions was emphasized, which will further increase the appeal of the Trans-Caspian International East-West Corridor, the export potential of the countries of the region and strengthen economic relations.

Furthermore, Azerbaijan is working on strengthening the transport infrastructure and investing significant resources in this. In addition, the growth of transit cargo transportation through the territory of Azerbaijan amounted to 75 percent and reached 11 million tons last year.

Azerbaijan is also working on increasing the cargo flow through the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars to five million tons, and the design of the second phase of the construction of the Baku port is to be completed by October of this year.
