The 28th meeting of the Commission of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on the use of interstate water facilities on the Shu and Talas rivers has been held via videoconference, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan.
According to the ministry, the Kazakh part of the Commission was headed by the Vice Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Kozhaniyazov, the Kyrgyz part - by the Deputy Director of the State Agency for Water Resources under the Government of Kyrgyzstan Abdybai Jailoobaev.
"Representatives of the ministries of ecology, geology and natural resources, foreign affairs, akimat of Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan, water management institutions and organizations also took part in the work of the Commission," said the ministry.
Following the meeting, the Commission agreed on the operating modes of reservoirs on the Shu and Talas rivers and approved the schedules for water supply through interstate canals for the growing season of 2021.
Moreover, the types and scales of repair and restoration work at water facilities of interstate use were approved, the message of the ministry said.
As reported, the Commission also approved the Strategic Action Program for the Shu and Talas river basins, within the framework of which measures will be implemented to strengthen water cooperation with the support of international financial organizations.
The next meeting of the Commission will be held in the 4th quarter of 2021 in the city of Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan).
