BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17. Aktau Commercial Sea Port became the first port in Kazakhstan to receive the certificate of the Port Environmental Assessment System and the status of "Ecoport" from the European Sea Ports Organization, the Board Chairman of "Aktau Sea Trade Port NC" JSC Abai Turikpenbayev said, Trend reports via the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

Turikpenbayev made the remark during his speech at the forum on "Transit and transport cooperation between Kazakhstan and European Union: prospects for development of Trans-Caspian International Transport Route".

The certification was carried out within the OSCE project of "EcoPorts", a globally recognized standard for environmental management in ports and port terminals.

The project, launched in 2019, is aimed at developing the infrastructure of maritime and transcontinental cargo transportation, simplifying customs procedures through the introduction of digitalization, as well as training and educating domestic specialists.

The certificate provides an opportunity to expand relations with European ports and stimulates the mitigation of the negative environmental impact of ports, as well as the improvement of the environmental situation in the Caspian region.

Corresponding work on passing the "green" certification is also carried out by the port of Kuryk.
