BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 31. Astana’s Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport recorded a net profit of 5.3 billion Kazakh tenge ($11.48 million) in 2022, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

Total revenue for 2022 reached 100 billion Kazakh tenge ($216.72 million), while the gross operating profit amounted to 25 billion Kazakh tenge ($54.18 million).

The airport attracted 5 new airlines and launched 6 new flight routes in 2022. Additionally, the Turkish Airlines company tripled the number of flights to Istanbul, while its subsidiary Anadolujet launched directed flights to Ankara.

Negotiations are ongoing to attract Air Asia, Neos, Qatar Airways, as well as WizzAir to launch operations at the airport.

The capital's airport served more than six million passengers for the first time in its history in 2022. The success is attributed to the growth of domestic flight volume.

In previous years, the Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport recorded a significantly lower turnover of passengers. The 2022 figures constitute a 24 percent increase compared to 2021, and a 30 percent growth in contrast to 2020.
