ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 4. Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national company) plans to build 1,300 km of railway tracks within three years, Trend reports.

This was stated by representatives of KTZ during the VI New Silk Way International Transport and Logistics Business Forum in Astana.

As representatives noted, this will significantly increase the country’s transport potential, increase the efficiency of transportation of export products and increase the speed of trains across the country.

A high demand for transit via the railways of Kazakhstan was noted. Over the 8 months of 2023, transit cargo turnover increased by 25 percent and reached 35.8 billion net ton-kilometers. Container transit increased by 26 percent. Attention is focused on the growing traffic along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. Since the beginning of 2023, the volume of traffic along the route has increased by 85 percent compared to the same period in 2022 and amounted to 1.7 million tons.

To ensure the passage of increasing cargo traffic, KTZ is working to expand the infrastructure of Kazakhstan, which includes construction of new and modernization of existing railway tracks. Construction of the second Dostyk-Moyynty tracks is underway.

It is planned to build the Darbaza - Maktaaral section, a bypass around Almaty, and the opening of the third border crossing with China (Bakhty - Ayagoz). The construction and reconstruction of sea and dry port terminals is underway.
