ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 26. More than 3 trillion tenge (about $6.5 billion) of investments have been attracted to the Mangystau region of Kazakhstan over the past five years, Trend reports.
The official data says that based on the results of 11 months of this year, 976 billion tenge (about $2.12 billion) were attracted into fixed capital, which is 44 percent more than the same period last year.
At the same time, since the beginning of 2023, 15 projects with a total investment volume of more than 20 billion tenge (about $43.5 million) have been launched in the region in various sectors of the economy. Among them are a meat processing plant, production of rolled metal, special equipment and machinery, reinforced concrete, antifreeze, etc.
One of the most important projects of the future is the construction of a plant for the production of green hydrogen in the Mangystau region. The project is being implemented by the German-Swedish company Svevind Energy GmbH.
The investment agreement was signed last year, and test drilling has already started this year.
The project involves construction and operation of a desalination plant, a 40GW renewable energy stations (wind, solar), as well as a 20GW water electrolysis plant with an annual production capacity of 2 million tons of green hydrogen or 11 million tons of green ammonia.
Meanwhile, at the end of 2022, the gross inflow of foreign direct investment into Kazakhstan amounted to $28 billion, which is 17.7 percent more than the results of 2021 ($23.8 billion). This is a record figure over the past 10 years - in 2012, the volume of FDI reached $28.9 billion.
By industry, the largest volume of investments was directed to the mining industry - $12.1 billion (+25 percent), manufacturing - $5.6 billion (+3 percent), wholesale and retail trade - $5.08 billion (+36 percent), professional, scientific and technical activities - $1.1 billion (2.1 times increase), transport and warehousing - $1.1 billion (+14 percent), construction - $698 million (-3 percent), financial and insurance activities - $650 million (-60 percent), electricity and gas supply – $635.6 million (an increase of 2.8 times), etc.
