BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 4. The representatives of Kyrgyzstan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (the EBRD) have signed an Agreement on the reconstruction and modernization of the Lebedinovskaya hydroelectric power plant (HPP), Trend reports via the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan.

The document was signed by Minister of Finance of Kyrgyzstan Almaz Baketaev and Director Energy Eurasia, Middle East and Africa, Sustainable Infrastructure Group at the EBRD, Aida Sitdikova, following the visit of Kyrgyz representatives to the UK.

The agreement entails the allocation of 13.8 million euros (of which 5.0 million euros is a grant) for the rehabilitation of the Lebedinovskaya HPP as part of the measures taken by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic to improve energy security.

The implementation of the project is expected to increase electricity generation in Kyrgyzstan up to 53.5 GWh per year, or by 56 percent.

The Lebedinovskaya HPP was built in two stages between 1943 and 1948 years and consists of two hydraulic units that have worked out their service life. The HPP is in need of reconstruction and modernization through the replacement of hydroelectric units and auxiliary systems with new modern equipment.

The HPP provides electrical energy to about 6,000 households in the Alamudun and Issyk-Ata districts of the Chui region of Kyrgyzstan.
