BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 7. Shahin Huseynov, Special Representative of the WHO (World Health Organization) Regional Director in Kyrgyzstan, has named the main priorities of the WHO’s activities in the healthcare sector of the country for 2022, 2023 in an interview with local journalists, Trend reports via Kyrgyz media.

Huseynov said that operation of the organization in the country is determined by a Biennial Collaborative Agreement Between WHO and Kyrgyzstan, which is revised every two years. The main priority of the WHO’s activities in the healthcare sector of Kyrgyzstan within the agreement in 2022 and 2023 is to fight against noncommunicable diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, cancer, chronic respiratory disease and mental health, as well as smoking and unhealthy food.

The WHO’s representative added that cooperation continues on infectious diseases, such as vaccine-preventable infections, seasonal influenza, tuberculosis, hepatitis and other diseases.

Furthermore, the organization helps to strengthen health care financing systems and financial protection of the population in receiving medical services in Kyrgyzstan.

According to Huseynov, technical support is provided to improve the quality of essential health services, including maternal, newborn and child health and to reduce preventable maternal, newborn and child morbidity and mortality.

Among the WHO activities to support the country’s healthcare, is investment in emergency preparedness, including man-made and natural crises, and help to build sustainable diagnostic, alert, and response services.
