Cars of joint Kyrgyz-Uzbek production may be exempt from registration fees

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan is proposing to lift registration fees for cars manufactured in the country at a joint plant with Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to the Unified portal for public discussion of draft regulatory legal acts in Kyrgyzstan.

The changes are proposed to be made in the Kyrgyz government’s resolution "On the Registration of Vehicles, Installations, and Equipment".

According to the ministry, it is necessary to implement the changes within the frame of cooperation agreement on the organization of the production of vehicles and commercial equipment in Kyrgyzstan signed between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in Bishkek, on January 27, 2023.

The agreement provides for preferential treatment, namely, exemption of consumers from paying fees for the initial registration of domestically produced vehicles for a period of 120 days from the date of entry into force.

According to the press-office of Kyrgyz president, the launch of a joint car plant between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will give impetus to development of the automotive industry in Kyrgyzstan, increase the share of industry in GDP, renew the car fleet, and create more than 2,000 new jobs.
