BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. Kyrgyzstan noted a rise in smartphone imports, with a total of 561,020 units entering the country from January through March 2023, Trend reports.
This figure marks a threefold growth compared to the same period in 2022 when 184,603 smartphones were imported, according to Kyrgyzstan's statistical data.
The value of these smartphone imports reached $42.8 million in 1Q2023, increasing 3.4-fold, compared to the $12.4 million recorded in the first quarter of the previous year.
Among the countries exporting smartphones to Kyrgyzstan, China became the main supplier, accounting for the largest share of imports. A total of 460,336 smartphones were imported from China during the reviewed period, which is 2.8 times more compared to the 163,043 units imported in 1Q2022.
The most remarkable growth was observed in smartphones imported from South Korea. The figure surged by an impressive 85.1 times, with 17,025 units being imported in 1Q2023 compared to only 200 smartphones during the same period the previous year.
At the same time, imports of smartphones from Kazakhstan dropped by 41 percent, with 1,119 devices imported to Kyrgyzstan in 1Q2023, and 1,870 in 1Q2022.
In the January-March period, Kyrgyzstan also imported smartphones from Vietnam (70,797 devices), India (11,696 devices), and the US (42 devices).
