BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, July 8. An agreement has been signed, wherein the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKDF) is allocating $10 million to the Chakan HPP company for the completion of the Bala-Saruu small hydropower plant, with a capacity of 25 megawatts, in the Talas region of Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports

The hydropower plant will be located near the dam on the Kirov reservoir (on the Talas river). This is the first such facility in the area, and its construction will maximize the utilization of water resources.

"It is a great honor for us to participate in co-financing this project and help complete it in the shortest possible time," said Chairman of the Board of the RKDF Artem Novikov. He added that most of the preparatory construction work at the plant has already been completed.

“We hope that the first megawatts generated by the Bala-Saruu HPP will be supplied to the power grid this year,” he added.

In turn, Nurlan Sadykov, CEO of Chakan HPP company, highlighted the significance of this project and expressed gratitude to all who supported it, including the RKDF and the Ministry of Energy.

He stated, "All our employees are working diligently. We are confident that we will complete this project, which is significant for our country, in the shortest possible time."

In 2022, President Sadyr Japarov laid the foundation for the construction of the Bala-Saruu HPP. Over two billion soms ($22 million) have been allocated from the national budget for the project's implementation.

The plant is expected to generate 92.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, reducing the energy deficit in Kyrgyzstan by 4.2 percent.

The goal of the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund is to support economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Russia, as well as modernize and develop the Kyrgyz economy. The fund acts as the main tool for Kyrgyzstan’s integration into the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
