BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 14. Machinery and equipment constituted the largest share of Polish exports to Kyrgyzstan in 2022, accounting for 53.4 percent of the total, a source at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology of Poland told Trend.
The source said that in 2022, the trade turnover between the two countries reached $133.1 million, with Polish exports to Kyrgyzstan amounting to $115.3 million. Chemical industry products and plastics followed machinery and equipment, accounting for 17 percent, while agro-food products held an 11-percent share.
At the same time, Polish imports stood at $17.8 million, with mineral products, including coal, dominating Polish imports from Kyrgyzstan and comprising 85.3 percent of the total. Additionally, other commodities such as firewood were also supplied.
“While from 2015 through 2021 Poland's annual trade turnover with Kyrgyzstan did not exceed $30 million, in 2022 it increased to more than $130 million, with high increases covering both Polish exports to Kyrgyzstan and supplies from Kyrgyzstan to Poland. The high trade dynamics continue in 2023 as well,” the source said.
According to the ministry, Poland also sees potential for investment in Kyrgyzstan.
“Specific prospects for investment cooperation can be seen in such sectors of Kyrgyzstan's economy as energy, including renewable energy sources, agriculture and food processing, environmental projects, light industry and others. Poland is also ready to share solutions and knowledge in green technologies, digitization and other areas important for the Kyrgyz economy,” the source said.
The ministry pointed out that in light of the current geopolitical environment, it is crucial to ensure transparency in cooperation and jointly address any circumvention of sanctions imposed on Russia and Belarus.
