Kyrgyzstan's gold export skyrocket in 1H2023

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan. August 15. Kyrgyzstan exported 4.819 tons of gold for a total of $302.793 million from January through June 2023, Trend reports.

According to the data from the Kyrgyzstan Statistical Committee, in the previous year during the same period, only 64.4 kilograms of gold were exported, valued at $609,000.

Based on the provided information, for the first six months of the year, Kyrgyzstan sold a significant portion of its gold to Switzerland, amounting to 3.97 tons for approximately $250 million. Notably, as per the official statistics, Kyrgyzstan did not export gold to Switzerland in the same period of 2022.

Additionally, 517.8 kilograms of gold worth $31.483 million were sold to China and 334.9 kilograms worth $21.268 million to the UAE.

Earlier, it was reported that the Kumtor Gold Company in Kyrgyzstan extracted over 5.5 tons of precious metals, including gold, silver, and platinum, from the Kumtor gold mine (the largest gold mine in Central Asia) from January through June 2023.

Overall, Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover reached $6.7 billion from January through June 2023, marking a 31 percent increase compared to the first half of 2022 ($5.1 billion).
