Tajikistan's exports to Afghanistan decreases

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 8. Tajikistan’s exports to Afghanistan amounted to $55.7 million from January through July 2023, which is 16.5 percent less than in the same months of 2022 ($66.7 million), Trend reports.

The data from the Tajikistan’s official Statistical Agency shows that Afghanistan's share in Tajikistan's total exports for the first seven months of this year increased to 7.3 percent, over 4.9 percent in the same period in 2022.

Afghanistan remains one of the main markets for Tajik products, ranking only behind Kazakhstan, China, Türkiye, Russia, and Uzbekistan.

The primary product exported by Tajikistan to Afghanistan continues to be electricity. Additionally, some construction materials, primarily cement, and food products are exported in relatively smaller quantities.

More than 98 percent of Tajik-Afghan trade, as in the previous year, consists of Tajik products being exported to Afghanistan.

Trade turnover between Tajikistan and Afghanistan amounted to near $56.5 million from January through July 2023, which is 17.9 percent lower than in the same period in 2022, ($68.6 million).

Overall, Tajikistan's foreign trade turnover reached about $4 billion during the months under review, down by 3.5 percent compared to the similar period in 2022. Throughout this period, the country maintained trade relations with 111 countries worldwide.
