Turkmenistan’s President appoints new Supreme Judge

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Feb.6 / Trend corr E. Hasanov / Upon the order of Turkmenistan's President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammadov , former judge of Kopetdag district of Ashgabat A. Rajapov was appointed to the post of supreme judge.

The document was formalized in accordance with the article 60 of Turkmenistan's Law on Juridical System and Legal Status of Judge in Turkmenistan.

Judges in Turkmenistan are appointed by the President.

Staff replacements affected all regional judges.

Article 101 of Turkmenistan's Constitution specifies that the judges are independent, subordinated only to law and guided by internal regulations. Intervention in their activity is inadmissible. Immunity of judges is guaranteed by law.

Large-scale personnel replacements touched upon the power bloc and governmental staff after the inspections of the General Prosecutor's Office of Turkmenistan in early 2009.
