Ashgabat hosts int’l Muhammat Gaymaz Turkmen conference

The international "Muhammat Gaymaz Turkmen - Renowned Eastern Scholar" conference opened in Ashgabat on Feb. 25. Turkmen was a philospher in the 13-14th centuries.

"Organizing international conferences during this period when our society is undergoing a cultural revival is important to help us promote science, academic reforms and our cultural heritage," Turkmen President Gurbanguli Berdimuhammedov said in an address to the conference participants.

Turkmen was known in Central Asia and the Middle East as Imam Zahabi. He lived in Syria. His activities and books recently became the focus of much attention.

Turkmenistan has obtained copies of the scholar's manuscripts from libraries abroad.

Turkmen was a historian, philosopher and doctor.
