Turkmenistan has sent humanitarian aid with textile products and flour for the population of the Turkish Van Province, who suffered from the recent devastating earthquake.

According to the Turkmen government, Turkish officials, who met the humanitarian aid convoy from Ashgabat at Erzurum Airport, expressed 'sincere gratitude to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov and the Turkmen people for a goodwill gesture'.

During a recent telephone conversation, Mr. Berdimuhammadov informed the Turkish President Abdullah Gul about his intention to provide special humanitarian aid 'to Turkish brothers in their difficult time'.

The government report says that 'thanking him for his words of sympathy and assistance offered, President Gul expressed his gratitude to his Turkmen counterpart for sympathy and sincere empathy'.

The earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale jolted Van city in Turkey at 3:41 am on Oct. 23. Local seismologists predicted that the death toll can reach 1,000 people.
According to recent data, the death toll has hit 601, while more than 4100 people were injured.
