Festivities were held in Gokdepe district of Turkmenistan’s Ahal Region on the occasion of the building of a new administrative center, Trend reports referring to the local Altyn Asyr TV channel.

The implementation of the large-scale project started in accordance with the resolution of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed in August, in line with which contracts were signed with local construction companies for the commissioning of facilities in September 2021.

Head of Ahal Region Serdar Berdimuhamedov addressed the audience with an introductory speech and expressed appreciation to the head of state on behalf of the residents for creating the necessary conditions for the progressive socio-economic development of the region. He also expressed gratitude for the initiative to build the new administrative center, which is designed to accumulate technological growth, investment and business activity, the report reads.

The new administrative center is designed for more than 70,000 inhabitants. It is planned to build over 400 cottages and multi-storey buildings, 10 kindergartens and 19 secondary schools in the centre. A network of medical facilities, a drama theater, a library, a circus, a museum, sports complexes and an international higher school of horse breeding will be created.

The Turkmen capital of Ashgabat was the original administrative center of this region. Ashgabat later became a separate administrative unit, while the city of Anew in Bugdayly District was considered the center of the region not long ago.

Ahal Region is located on the Turkmen-Iranian border, in the foothills of the Kopetdag mountain range.
