BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 23. A national consultation meeting of the Turkmen government and the UN was held in Turkmenistan, during which the results of the assessment of the country's readiness for cross-border paperless trade were considered, Trend reports citing the Turkmenistan Golden Age online newspaper.

The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan jointly with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the advantages of introducing cross-border paperless trade as an e-commerce option.

The parties stressed that the COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the need to intensify digitalization in order to facilitate trade and ensure the smooth movement of goods, especially essential products.

Furthermore, the sides noted that paperless trading systems provide cost savings by speeding up the movement of goods, increasing the efficiency of their processing by the relevant authorities when crossing borders and reducing the costs of doing business in today's world.

Following the meeting, the consultation participants agreed to continue exchanging ideas on the implementation of the report's recommendations in accordance with the proposed action plan.
