BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 19. Uzbekistan's Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AMMC) aims to increase the volume of molybdenum production in 2023, Trend reports via the press service of AMMC.

Molybdenum is used for alloying steels as a component of heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant alloys. Molybdenum wire (tape) is used for the manufacture of high-temperature furnaces, and electric current inputs in incandescent lamps.

According to the source, AMMC is looking to install 2 new furnaces, in addition to the existing 4 furnaces in the workshop. The furnaces are expected to be put into operation in March of 2023. As a result, the molybdenum production capacity should increase from 800 tons to 1,200 tons in 2023.

AMMC mainly produces molybdenum soot with a content of at least 25 percent, as well as ammonium perrenate with a rhenium content of 69.3 percent.

The combine looks to boost the volume of molybdenum manufacturing up to 7,840 tons per year by 2031.

AMMC produced commodity products worth 30.5 trillion soums ($2.7 billion) in 2022. This figure decreased by 0.66 percent, compared to the figure for 2021.

During the reporting period, combine produced copper cathode (148,510 tons), followed by gold (17,200 tons), silver (161,200 tons), zinc (91,360 tons), sulfuric acid (824,227 tons), as well as rare metals, such as molybdenum (1,177 tons), and tungsten (33,800 tons).
