Uzbekistan discloses plans for expansion of Tashkent Airport's passenger capacity

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, December 11. Uzbekistan plans to increase Tashkent airport’s passenger capacity from 7 million to 13 million passengers per year, Trend reports.

Uzbekistan Airports company said managing all airports of the country, work on the expansion of the terminal will be carried out in two stages and will continue approximately until the end of 2025.

Some other reconstruction details provided by the company include the increase of the security screening area. The waiting area for boarding will be increased due to an outdoor terrace with an area of about 5,000 square meters.

Moreover, Uzbekistan plans to purchase 2 additional teletraps, which will increase their number to 6, as well as boost the number of gates for passage from the aircraft directly to the terminal to 12 units.

Baggage handling system will also be upgraded to provide real-time tracking of each passenger's luggage inside the terminal. Passengers will also be able to check in early and check in their luggage 24 hours before departure.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan plans to transfer 5 airports to the external management of investors.

Uzbekistan’s Deputy Head of the Air Transport Development Department of the Ministry of Transport Zhamoliddin Nazarov previously said that two years ago the Samarkand airport was transferred to external management and got successfully reconstructed.

As per Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport, the volume of air traffic in the country is planned to reach more than 13 million passengers by the end of 2025, against 9.2 million expected by the end of 2023.
