The world's biggest methanol production complex will be built in Iran's Bushehr Province and will add 60 new petrochemical and polymer products to Iran's roster, Mehr news agency reports.

The complex will be built by the private sector in the port town of Deyr on the Persian Gulf, said the managing director of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), Abdol Hossein Bayat.

A consortium of domestic banks is responsible for financing the project.

Right now Iran produces 25 petrochemical products. That will grow to 60 after various products of differing value in the chain of development projects and petrochemical parks become operational.

Iran claims 10 per cent of the world's annual methanol production.
