Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says Tehran is to host a meeting between Syrian government and opposition groups next week, PressTV reported.

The meeting will bring together representatives of various Syrian ethnicities, political groups, minorities, the opposition, and the state officials, Amir-Abdollahian said on Tuesday.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister added that the one-day meeting will be held with the main theme of "No to Violence, Yes to Democracy."

Syria has been grappling with unrest since early 2011 and has witnessed the deaths of many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel in the violence.

Damascus blames Western countries and some of their regional allies of fueling the crisis in the country, and reports indicate that a large number of insurgents fighting the Syrian government are foreign nationals.

Iran has repeatedly rejected foreign intervention in Syria's internal affairs, calling for national dialog as the only way out of the country's prolonged impasse.
