Iran calls for support of IDB in Tajikistan energy transfer

Minister of Economics and Finance called for pivotal role of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in joint project of hydro-electric energy transfer from Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Iran, IRNA reported.

On the sidelines of the 38th meeting of IDB general assembly in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, Shamseddin Hosseini in a meeting with President of IDB Ahmad Mohammad Ali said that the three neighboring countries want participation of the IDB to do the joint hydro-electric project.

He added that Iran, as the main shareholder of the IDB expects more participation of the bank in its projects.

The minister also reminded President Ahmadinejadˈs emphasis on the bank participation in construction of railroad between Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran, adding that by commissioning the project and connecting these countries to each other, Central Asia would get the benefit.

IDB President Ahmad Mohammad Ali , for his part, appreciated Iranˈs good cooperation with the bank and expressed pleasure with President Ahmadinejadˈs interest in IDB.

IDB president added that President Ahmadinejad pays special attention to mutual cooperation between Iran and IDB and that the cooperation will expand.

He went on to say IDB is pleased that Iran pays special attention to Central Asian countries and after 70 years of the communist dominance on the region, these countries can get closer to the Islamic world.

IDB 38th general assembly meeting started on Saturday May 18, 2013 in Dushanbe and will wrap up on Tuesday May 21.

Islamic Development Bank was founded on December 18, 1973 in the first meeting of member countries of Organization of Islamic Conference in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and started its work from 1975.

Capital of the bank was paid by founding countries including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Libya, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Egypt and Pakistan.
