Iran cannot get angry at the world, and at the same time think about progress and evolution, country's former president Ayatollah Hashemi-Rafsanjani said, ILNA news agency reported.

Rafsanjani made the remarks during his meeting with the teachers of Iranian universities.

"Our duty is to protect the government, and prevent radicals from destroying the nation's hopes," Rafsanjani underscored.

Rafsanjani went on to criticize the government of president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, which was the reason for the situation to be this bad in the current time.

"Together we can re-think the words, the behavior, and can help to improve the situation in the country in the atmosphere of competition," he noted, adding that Iran should also refrain from insults.

Rafsanjani also mentioned two slogans of the new president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani - cooperation with foreign countries and moderation of inner policy.

Rouhani became the new president of Iran on June 14 at the presidential elections in the country, gathering over 50 percent of votes. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did not participate in the elections due to country's constitutional laws.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.

It should be noted that Rafsanjani was also registered to participate in the election race, however his candidacy was denied by the country's Guardian Council.
