Some 4,000 tons of non-oil goods worth $5 million have been exported from Iran's northwestern Astara port in the form of suitcase trade in the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 - June 20).
The figure shows 30 and 24 percent increase in terms of weight and value, respectively.
According to Iran's Customs Administration, the goods were exported to Azerbaijan.
Food stuff, plastic products, and agricultural products are the main exported items.
Astara, Jolfa, and Bilesavar are the country's top three port cities in terms of suitcase trade.
Some 182,823 passengers also passed through Astara port's customs in the mentioned 3-month period.
